She's wrong.. The statistics are more or less

As you can see, you're probably 4th cousins or greater. The common link 
should be one of your 3x-great grandparents or probably one of their 
not-so-distant ancestors. The problem in the Azores is that due to 
intermarriage being so common, you can have shared cMs from multiple 
sources.

It seems from that article, that it should be impossible to have intact 
segments from before the 6x-great grandparents (>7th cousins). In any case, 
that's all within the recorded parish records, and with some luck you 
should be able to find your common ancestor. Assuming of course that no one 
had a child from the milkman (other than his wife of course..).
