Since you mentioned you didn't know where to start but you would like the full history of your genes, I would suggest the Family Finder test. It covers ALL your lines (Portuguese and non-Portuguese) back about 200 years from the birth of the testee. If you have a living parent (or grandparent) test them first as 200 years back from their birth is even better! But if you are all you have, then by all means, test yourself! You'll get a list of matches (you'll have to tease them apart and this will take time, but if you are of mixed ancestry, you'll be able to tell your Portuguese lines apart from your non-Portuguese matches). You'll also get a rough ethnic breakdown - 75% European (they'll break that into say, British Isles, Southern Europe), 10% Middle Eastern, etc. Order through a project though. If anything happens, the admins can help you out.
