Laura,
When I view my In Common FTDNA matches with you, the western half of Sao Miguel (Bretanha-Mosteiros) come up more than any other Azores location. I am guessing we eventually connect, there. One In Common person comes up as having ancestors from Santa Maria, but I don't know of any family I have from there. That same person also has some non-specific Sao Miguel ancestors. I might be able to find a way to work forward from the past, but I will need the help of the closest (to me) cousin, on FTDNA. I haven't spoken with this person, before, but if I found out my shared ancestor with them, we could maybe work our way forward to the present. -Trevor Costa (Costa Pevide,Furnas / da Camara Vieira,Capelas) -----Original Message----- From: Laura Flanagan <[email protected]> To: azores <[email protected]> Sent: Sat, Dec 6, 2014 12:09 pm Subject: Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Moniz Surname 1940s Fall River Hi Herb, Thanks so much! I appreciate any leads you can send my way! On Sat, Dec 6, 2014 at 12:05 PM, Herb <[email protected]> wrote: Laura I went to high school in Fall River and I remember a Carl Moniz and Lynn Moniz. A lot of my family is still in that area, and one of my brothers stays in contact with Carl. I will check with them in case they knew a Bobby Moniz. Good luck with your search Herb On Wednesday, December 3, 2014 3:09:13 PM UTC-5, Laura Flanagan wrote: My name is Laura and I was adopted at birth in 1969. I have been attempting to identify my biological father and trace my paternal line. I have taken the Ancestry.com dna test and uploaded my dna profile to Family Tree DNA, as well as GEDMatch. My biological mother was of Irish, German, English and Scottish decent, so I am confident that matches of Portuguese decent come from my paternal line. My DNA matches indicate that my paternal ancestors were from the Island of Sao Miguel, Acores. The only information that I have regarding my father is that his went by the name Bobby Moniz. He was approximately 23 years old in 1968 and his family was from the Fall River/Seekonk area. He met my biological mother near her father's home in Riverside (East Providence), Rhode Island, where they briefly dated. He was never told of her pregnancy. She described him as a short/stocky man with dark, kinky curly hair. She remembers he drove a blue Ford Farlane. They spent time together at Sabin Point Park in Riverside, Rhode Island. I would be interested in any Moniz surname lines with ancestors from Sao Miguel who may have immigrated and/or lived in the Fall River/Seekonk/East Providence area between 1940 and 1970. -- For options, such as changing to List, Digest, Abridged, or No Mail (vacation) mode, log into your Google account and visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/Azores.
