Referring to the father's surname - I believe the abbreviation refers to 
the surname Gonsalves. The mother's name is Caterina Vultao (sometimes the 
surname is written as Bultao). The [writing] in this record is common for 
the era; many 17th c., and earlier records, list the year in numerals - you 
should also note that the month sometimes also bears a number such as in 
the record below the one you referred to (8tubro). Finally, although this 
record does list the century, many do not.
