Thank you for your help, Margaret. The passport was from 1873 and says he was 21. I thought maybe this was the husband of a grgr aunt but I didn't know which vlg he was from on Faial. I found this passport record & then the baptism & the name of the mother was correct, according to our Jose's marriage record in CA, but the father is supposed to be Dominico Silveira Furtado. I have found family whose first names are different on different records so I thought maybe that might be the case.
The fact that this Jose died in the Azores means that he is probably not the one I want. I am going to keep this info, tho, just in case. I can usually get most of the records but those margin notes really confuse me!! Thanks so much for helping.
