*Hello Aaron [Pereira],*

*I recently have begun receiving emails from the Azores page. I am
researching a branch of the Pereiras that settled in the Azores early on
(15th-16th C.) in S. Miguel. My grandparents came from Maia as did many of
my ancestrors. I was wondering if your ancestors are part of that branch in
S. Miguel or from another island. I have a lot of info on my Pereira
branch, mostly from church records. My Maternal (Portuguese) grandparents
were: Jose Raposo Ramalho PEREIRA B. 07 Mar 1876 in Maia; d. 19 Jun 1917
Newport, RI. Church was in Maia, Cocncelho da Ribeira Grande, Diocese of
Angra. Family lore is that when he supervised the gardens of the Vanderbilt
estate in Newport. Mrs. V. had trouble with Jose Pereira and re-named him
"Joe Russell." His brother Augusto who ended up in CA worked with him and
became "Gus Russell." This complicates the records with different names in
the states and the centuries long line in Portugal. My grandmother was
Margarida Joaquina Andrade Almeida from the same area. Does any of this
compute with what you have found? *

*Thanks for any hints,*

*Raymond *
