I finally found the marriage record of Francisco Gomez Xapado's parents Francisco Gomez Xapado and Francisca Tavares (which the help of his brother's baptismal record - which gave me a hint of where to look - Francisca was a native of Lagoa).

I can see that Francisco Gomez/s) was the widower of Maria da Costa (who he married in 1714 in Rabo de Peixe, so I now have another generation back as well). As for Francisca - it looks like she was the daughter of Manoel Veira Luis and Roza Tavares?? If someone can clarify the date for me and confirm that I have the parents correct; it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you to all!
