Too many acronyms in our world! For those who are new (or see too many
things called "Family Tree"):

FTM = Family Tree Maker - a genealogy program published by Ancestry.com
AncestryDNA - What Ancestry.com calls their DNA product.
Ancestry.com is a privately held company and its CEO is Tim Sullivan. No,
it is not held by the Mormon church, but they do partner up with them on
projects. Ancestry.com publishes books, a genealogy program called Family
Tree Maker, digital images, does DNA.

FTDNA = Family Tree DNA. FTDNA is also a privately held company. Its CEO is
Bennett Greenspan. The only thing they do is DNA.

AncestryDNA and FTDNA both use the Illumina chip for their autosomal
testing (AncestryDNA just calls it their DNA test; FTDNA calls it Family
Finder). Yes, you can test with AncestryDNA (if you want to agree to their
Terms and Conditions) and then transfer to FTDNA for $39 (FTDNA has a free
transfer too, but it is a limited type account).

After transferring to FTDNA, you can join the Azores DNA project. It is not
automatic, you have to do it and I can send directions when the time comes.

> Good Morning, FTM has DNA kits for sale and so does Ancestry. What is
the difference? Are they compatible with what I diid with FTM DNA? And do
they magically appear in the Azores DNA database??
