I have no question this time; just a finding that I found interesting. I'm sure many on this list are familiar with "Archivo dos Açores" by Ernesto do Canto, 1883, but I just found it on google books.
I found my 3G-grandfather, Francisco Pacheco de Mello, in an section about an 1852 earthquake on São Miguel. It said (rough translation) that his house was among eight houses on Rua Ribeira Grande in Rabo de Peixe that fell and that he, his wife, and four children were buried in the rubble for a quarter of an hour; all survived except for a four-month-old daughter. I then went to CCA and found the baptism of Maria in Jan 1848 and the obit on 16 April 1848 (the day of the earthquake) corroborating the text of the book and confirming that it was my ancestor.
