You need to go back to Manuel's parents' marriage - the marriage of Jacinto d'Andrade and Escolastica de Jesus. It's in Rabo de Peixe in 1896. It's going to clarify some of your questions above and raise more. 28 is not too old to get married. Many married when they were older in the Azores.
