Please and thank you A few days ago there was an inquiry concerning Francisca de Viveiros of Santo António além Capelas was born on 12 Sep 1650 and who died on 8 Nov 1717. The Francisca de Viveiros who died in 1717 was the widow of Manuel Pavão. She died intestate and her children (whose names are not mentioned) arranged for Masses for the repose of her soul. She did not have her own grave and was buried in one belonging to the parish. I looked for the death of her spouse Manuel Pavão from 1717 back to 1670 and could not find his death. The Francisca born in 1650 is the daughter of Francisco da Costa and Bárbara de Viveiros. Godparents were Licenciado Manuel Pereira Botelho and Maria de S. João (daughter of Domingos Fernandes da Costa). Francisco da Costa was the son of Amaro da Costa and Maria Rodrigues and Bárbara de Viveiros was the daughter of Captain António de Viveiros and Margarida Álvares. I consulter Miguel Soares da Silva’s RECONSTITUIÇÃO DAS FAMÍLIAS DE SANTO ANTÓNIO (ATÉ 1750) and found the following: FRANCISCO DA COSTA DE ALMEIDA, son of Amaro da Costa and Maria Roiz; he died on 25.03.1701, widowed, at a very old age. He was married on 17.11.1636 to BÁRBARA DE VIVEIROS (MEDEIROS), daughter of Captain António de Viveiros and Margarida Álvares; who died on 14.01.1688. Children: * António, b. 08.1637/bap. 06.09.1637. António de Viveiros m. on 8.11.1666 to Clara da Fonseca, daughter of António de Carvalho and Águeda Martins. * Manuel, b. 18.11.1639/bap. 23.11.1639; Manuel da Costa d. on 18.07.1659. * Maria, b. 07.04.1642/bap. 13.04.1642. * Amaro, b. 27.04.1644/b. 05.05.1644 * Bárbara, b. 08.11.1646/bap. 14.11.1646; married to Francisco Carvalho around 1674. * Francisca, b. 12.09.1650/bap. 18.09.1650 (NB: Soares da Silva has no record of her marriage) * Luzia, b. 30.07.1653/bap. b. 03.08.1653. * Mariana da Costa m. on 6.12.1666 to Manuel Velho da Fonseca, son of António Carvalho and Águeda Martins. How do we know for certain that it is this Francisca who married Manuel Pavão? Many of the marriage records in this parish for the time period in question are missing, even from Ernesto Canto. I have been unable to find a marriage for Manuel Pavão and Francisca de Viveiros for this time period. Also in Miguel Soares da Silva’s RECONSTITUIÇÃO DAS FAMÍLIAS DE SANTO ANTÓNIO (ATÉ 1750). I found: Bárbara Camelo “ou Pavão”, daughter of Manuel Pavão and Francisca de Viveiros (married to MANUEL DE ARRUDA, son of António de Benevides da Costa and Maria Soares; she died 9.05.1751, age 58. MANUEL CAMELO, son of Manuel Pavão and Francisca de Viveiros who was married on 23.09.1710 to ANA MARTINS, daughter of Inácio Raposo e de Maria Martins. MANUEL CAMELO PAVÃO, son of Manuel Pavão and Francisca de Viveiros; who died widowed on 7.04.1751, age 68. H was married on 23.09.1709 to ANA DE MEDEIROS, daughter of Manuel de Medeiros and Ana de Almeida. Are these the same men or are there two couples named Manuel Pavão and Francisca de Viveiros? I am afraid all this research probably raises more questions than it answers. I am sorry that I cannot be of more help.
