Sandra, I have a Nicolau de Sous married to Maria Carvalho in 1659 in Candelaria, Sao Miguel. He is the son of Barnabé Travassos and Mecia de Sousa. (I think your Tavalos is really Travassos). Barnabé is my 10th great grandfather.
