Any second hand information is only as reliable as the person giving the information. UPEC was accepting your grandmother's statement as truth and probably did not check into it. My grandfather, Jose Soares Coelho, is shown in the UPEC records. I have always understood that he died while on a visit to the Azores while this record is stating that he died in the USA. Any idea how accurate the information in these records are? Was the information such as place of death verified in any way or was the information given by the informant, my grandmother I presume, just taken as gospel?
