I'm trying to contact a researcher whose first name may or may not be Jim. He contacted me several years ago about the Braga line in Maia, Ribeira Grande. Mine is Braga and his is Braga Serra. (I believe the Braga may have been added to his family name) I've never found a link between the two.
At any rate, if someone here is researching this family, I would like to hear from you. I'm going through the marriages in Maia 1890-1905 and reading the margin notes. They are rich with information on marriages and deaths. I came across an entry on Image 36 no. 81. for Emilia, dau of Joao Aguiar and Erminia (?) de Braga. born 8 Dec 1899, Maia, RG, bapt 2 Dec 1899 Paternal Manoel Braga Serra and Anna Narcisa Maternal Jacintho de Medeiros and Anna de Braga There is a slight possibility that the maternal grandmother is connected to my de Braga. However, in the margins it says that Emilia m. Jose Melo Castanho 22 Jun 1957. It looks like Emilia died 24 Feb 1966, Maia. Jose Melo Castanho has to connect to my tree. All the Mello Castanho/Melo Castanho of Maia are connected to my tree. I've got a couple of possibilities. Perhaps if I find Jose's baptismal I'll find his parents and piece it together. I'm curious about the 1957 marriage date. It was the only marriage listed and seems kind of late. Maybe the person wrote the wrong year. At any rate, as I'm trying to figure out some family mysteries on the East Coast of the US, it would be helpful if I could figure out who Jose is. I'd also like to figure out if Anna connects to my de Braga line. If you are researching this line, I'd love to hear from you.
