Paul, Could you give us more information. Have you an estimated time frame when your grandfather came to the U.S. I would suggest checking the US Census from 1900 through 1920 give the year of immigration to the us. If your ancestor came through Ellis Island their website can be searched. Once you narrow down the date/year you can go back to The Passport records and search. Are you sure your grandfather came from Sao Miguel?
