Hi All,
As we get into genealogy we learn the many ways or recording our information. In the days BC (before computers) we used index cards and family charts and trees all paper and kept in note books and file cabinets. Sharing consisted of writing letters, postage and snail mail. The use of computers have all changed this. I have two recent matches on DNA. One I found is a 3rd cousin and another a 4th to remote cousin. In order to find our common connection we compare trees. The 3rd cousin match was easy as I knew immediately how we were related. The other match I am still looking at. The problem is that neither of these matches have any of their information in a genealogy program. One has entered their information on the DNA web site and the other is using an online site. So sending and receiving GEDCOM files of information in not possible. So if you are not using a genealogy program on your computer consider the advantages of making sharing and receiving information easier. Most all on line sites accept GEDCOM files to upload your data so changing and updating data is much easier. Cost of a genealogy program as there are several that can be downloaded for free. (Check the archives of this list there have been several discussions on genealogy programs) Rick Richard Francis Pimentel Epping, NH Researching, Riberia Grande, Riberinha, Achada Grande, Bretanha, and Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel, Acores -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Azores Genealogy" group.
