The definition of archipelago (according to Merriam Webster's dictionary) is a group of islands. So it's the archipelago of the Azores. Not the archipelago of Sao Miguel. You might be reading "archangel of Sao Miguel." Sao Miguel island was named after Sao Miguel Archangel (Sao Miguel Arcanjo), but that's a wild guess. I'd need the link as I said so I can be sure.
