Hi Sue, Sorry, I just saw this now as I have this list's mail going to a folder that I forget to check regularly.
Is your DNA uploaded to GEDMatch? I have all of my kits there including 7 that have Sylvia (et al) ancestry. Mine is A979857. I've done all my atDNA testing at Ancestry but I did move over my own kit to FTDNA (B11096) and paid the $39 fee to get full access to matches. I just found yet another close DNA match to the greater Silva surname and it also shows the Silva's in Hawkinsville/Yreka, just like my Sylvia's. This was an Ancestry match to my paternal uncle Ernie with an ancestor Joao da Cunha da Bettencourt born in Graciosa in 1835 but married to Marianna Silva (b. 1851). It is about a 3rd to 4th cousin match at 70 cMs and 5 segments. The children of this couple took Silva as a surname rather than Bettencourt. I think with all these clues we're on the verge of figuring out this confusing ancestral line.
