I would just like to clarify a few things about the Confession Rolls.

1. I have been assuming that the names between the lines in the Confession
Rolls represent one household in one house. Here's a page for
reference:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/GRA-SC-SANTACRUZ-S-1863-1867/GRA-SC-SANTACRUZ-S-1863-1867_item1/P78.html
However, I guess it could be possible that there are separate families
living in the same house—I don't know for sure. I have been to Fontes in
Graciosa and know that the houses are very small and am thinking that each
family lived in a separate house, especially when there are a lot of
members. For example, my ancestors are shown on the right page, second
column, entries 2-4, and if they were all in the same house that would be
10 people. I just want to make sure I'm not assuming incorrectly.

2. My maternal third great grandparents are shown in the Rolls for Fontes
from 1836 to 1865 when the last one died, but are missing in 1837 and I've
looked through that year several times in case I missed them. Has anyone
else had a similar situation and do you have any thoughts about possible
reasons that people might be missing in a given year? I'm thinking
possibilities are that they were sick, they took communion in another
village, the priest inadvertently omitted them, or they just didn't fulfill
their lenten obligations. Or...?

Many thanks for your input.

Sue
