Thank you Cheri for pointing out the necessity of using the correct subject.
Again, I am hoping that the interest in finding a place of baptism for my
husband's paternal grandmother, Maria Cristo Moraes (Mary Perry; Mary Perreira
da Silva and Mary da Silva (depends on what she was calling herself at the
time) helps find the pre-nuptial questions and answers in the church were she
married.
I have found all of the baptisms of her siblings in Lomba da Santa Barbara,
Sao Miguel, Azores. In addition I have traced her "brother," Seraphine and her
"sister" Ana to R.I.

I'm posting about St. John the
Baptist and Mount Carmel Churches in New Bedford,
Massachusetts and how to obtain information from them.
That's the title of this thread.
At one point you said St. John's (the
subject of this thread) and at another point you said St.
Mary's in Rhode Island. Not too sure if you know where
you are looking. So if you aren't talking about St. John
the Baptist or Mount Carmel in New Bedford, Massachusetts,
your query about St. Mary's in RI is going to get lost
in here. You probably want to start a new posting called
"St. Mary's in ____ Rhode Island" and post
there.
Thanks! Cheri

The church
secretary just told me to me to put the request in an
email
and she would get back to me. I sent the email on
Monday.
I'll wait and see what I get back. Cheri

Thanks, Joanne, for the
explanation. I will have to wait to see if I can visit
St.
John's and ask in person for the information.
Living
across the country from them makes it a little
difficult.

I’m sorry you
had that experience, Celeste. My sources tell
me that
particular rectory is a bit of a
mess personnel-wise so
I’m not sure
they’d go the extra mile to look in the
files. Parishes need more encouragement like
what we’re
doing in the Archdiocese of
Boston to get them to give us
genealogists
a good helping hand.

"Just says "notice sent" Both

Any suggestions that can give me a more

I called this
morning, and the church
secretary, Tammy,
said the St. John
books are there. She
won't photocopy
or take a picture
of the book but will
issue a paper
certificate. I told her
the certificate
doesn't have a blank
for the
freguesia/village that
the bride and groom
are from. She
said to state that in an
email to her and
she'll add it
in. So now I play
"wait and
see."
At least we have
confirmation that the
books are there
as of January 2017.

Cheri,
If you don't
need it anytime

Mt. Carmel for a St.

also going to the NB
Vital Records for the
papers that were
actually filled out by
bride and groom to
obtain license. I
believe they are not
easily accessible so
I am hoping they
will humor me and try to
find them. I
have them on another

more info on them
(even though it
proved to be incorrect
