Karl, NEPS shows a death date for Maria. Have you found her obit ? It might help, although I don't hold out much hope. The 1600s records are sparse on details, unlike the 1800s which offer up pearls.

If you don't mind reading every baptism record (not just your ancestors) you can sometimes find parents by looking for the son acting as a witness or godparent prior to his own wedding. Depends on time period. But, you could look to see if Bartolomeu ..., single son of ..., shows up.
