Speculating just for fun, I think the analysis the company is using must be playing a game of statistical odds. Unfortunately, the stats don't appear to be consistent with the real world.
My results seem credible by themselves but not in combination with my mom's and sister's. Both my mom and dad are full Azorean from at least the 18th c. and generally farther as the records allow. My mom shows 60% Iberian, 18% British Isles and 18% Sephardic. My sister shows 82% Iberian and >10% each of SW Europe and North Africa. My chart is below. My mom does have about a dozen British "5th to remote cousin" ftdna matches who appear to have no Portuguese connections in their extensive family trees. Her British Isles result MIGHT be partially explained by an exposta in the late 18th century. However, and even if this is the case, one very distant ancestor couldn't account for that percentage of her genetic ancestry. I'm also doubtful of the relatively high percentages my mom and I both show for Sephardic-- though I don't doubt the ancestry is likely there in some amount. I think I might win for greatest percentage of "Iberian". I would like my prize money in Reis, please :D. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Azores Genealogy" group.
