Great, Janet. If you relative speaks Portuguese then you have a head start. You will want to find the baptismal records for your grandparents and their marriage record. If you can get back to 1911 then you can use the online records that Cheri mentioned. You can learn to read the records, it takes time but you can do it if you are willing to try!
