I wasn’t aware of this bit of history, Margaret. Thanks!

Coming in a little on this, however and reference to the margin notes. In
1860 there was a call to Arms as the Civil War broke out. These
certificates were proof of marriage. The dates in between 1860-1865 will
also be reflected in every man/boy that were of age birth records. Proof
of age.

Thanks, Rick - any idea why the priest would notate when certificates were
issued? Or why? Just curious...

I was finally able to find the documentation on my great great grandparents
marriage but there are two margin notes that I’m having difficulty reading.
The upper is dated 31 March 1862 and the lower is 1864 - everything else is
blurry to me. If anyone can help me decipher this hard-to-read handwriting
I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks!
