Many problems arose from the older, plunger type swabs. Many people did understand to push the end of the swab to release the tip into the solution. So many people just tried swish the tip around in the solution and threw the swab away. They mailed the empty vials back. Then FTDNA would have to send out a new kit and tell them to push on the end of the swab.
Also, they had to use a lab tech to fish out the swab. With this type, the can use a machine to fish out the swab. Makes it go a little faster.
