Hi Maggie, I had a similar problem when I did not upgrade my old FTM and the new version was recently introduced a few months back. I chose to purchase the "upgrade" to FTM 2017. I then downloaded my tree(s) as a Gedcom file to my desktop. You can then upload the Gedcom file into the new FTM program. I would imagine the same process would work with other software programs, as well.
