Since the Azores are in the Northern Hemisphere, January is winter. Is January in the winter desirable? I guess it depends on your definition. If your Januarys are full of snow, you may find low 60s F and some rain rather nice.
Most people go to the Azores in the summer for vacation. Summer weather and lots of festas!
