FTDNA no longer *publicly* sells the basic Y-DNA 12 or Y-DNA 25, or the basic mtDNA test (HVR1). The basic mtDNA test (HVR1) has been completely discontinued. Project members only can get the basic Y-12 or Y-25. Those, as Rick said, provided haplogroup designation, or were used to DISPROVE a theory. Cheri Mello, Family Tree DNA Admin (volunteer)
