Without actually looking at the myriad files and papers and copies of census
records - I believe my Mello family lived in this area. My grandparents (who I
never knew - they died before I was born) came from Sao Miguel and then
Hawaii.... There were 16 children (one, Daniel I know died at a very young age
- maybe 4 yrs.) My father Ernest Mello was born in Honokaa, HI as well as many
of his siblings.

My grandfather came from Feteira, Faial. My grandmother's family came from Sao
Martinho and Santo Antonio, Madeira. Many of the people in the neighborhood
are also from the Azores and Madeira islands and a number spent time in Hawaii
before coming to the mainland. The surnames of the neighbors over that time
