No, in Portuguese a journeyman (jornaleiro) is a day laborer. Where I live, the modern day equivalent hang out at Home Depot and you can hire someone to help you do work in your house. In my area there's also some that hangout at a doughnut shop. That's what I think of when I see jornaleiro. Someone who does work like the guys that hang out at Home Depot.
