The US equivalent of Tras os Montes is actually a state. And they've listed
some of the information in the wrong order

So:

Tras os Montes=province where his village is found

Boticas: municipality

Vilarinho Seco: village

Alturas was likely the specific neighborhood/street he lived on, but that's
difficult to pinpoint without more information

Google: Vilarinho Seco Boticas

Select "images" and you'll see some *amazing* photos of what the village looks
like today

part of azores

Hi Holly,

That's the mainland. Tras-os-Montes is probably somewhat like an American
county, in the northeast corner of Portugal, next to Spain. The smaller
location that you mention, I don't know anything about them.
