In honor of Mother's Day (in America), Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) is having another sale!
The Full Mitochondrial Sequence (FMS) test is $149 USD (regularly $199). Family Finder is $59 USD (regularly $79). FMS and Family Finder can be bundled together for a NEW tester for $199. For those who only tested mtDNA Basic or mtDNA Plus, you can go out to the FMS for $99. MtDNA traces the testee's mother's mother's mother's line ONLY, or the bottom of the testee's pedigree chart. Once the mtDNA database reaches critical mass, about half of the matches will be within a genealogical time frame. This is due to the very slow mutation rate of mtDNA. Family Finder covers ALL the lines on a testee's pedigree chart, back about 200 years from their birth. So if the testee was born in 1950, he/she carries DNA in them back to about 1750.
