We bought something called OneSimCard a few years ago, which works in
multiple countries.  At that time, you had your card, and had an account
where you could top up your funds as needed.

The call rates were better than we could get with our gsm cell providers.

I’ve bought SIM cards at the post office. Cheap and easy to do. I don’t
remember the price, but it worked fine with my iPhone. New phone number but
everything else on my phone was the same.
