Manuel M, Ask your mom what freguesia and church she was baptized at. Everything there (and most of Europe) is organized on the town level.
Does your mom have her birth or baptismal information from there? The site you need is Tombo.pt. You can go to Tombo.pt/en to naviagate in English. Since the records are coming from the country of Portugal, they will be written in Portuguese, just like the Catholic records in France will be in French and the ones in Germany will be in German. In America, we speak English, so our vital records are recorded in English. Even if someone on the Azores wanted a death certificate for their great-aunt who died in America, it's going to come in English. It won't be in Portuguese for them. Make sense? The Catholic church records follow a format. You'll be researching the 3rd time period for a while. There's a list of key words and a transcribed example on the Azores GenWeb here: https://goo.gl/4Tzc2i Also there's a Portuguese Genealogical Conference and Research Trip planned in Salt Lake City, Utah for June 25-28, 2019. That's NEXT YEAR, or about 11 months away. If your mom is alive, get her DNA now! Order the Family Finder test on her from here: https://goo.gl/r7TnP8 I will explain later how it works. Get your dad's too if he is alive or one of his siblings if he is not alive. If he is not Portuguese, go ahead an order from the Azores DNA Group Project link above and I'll get you over to the correct project. Happy hunting!
