Hi Robert, Portuguese last names can be frustrating, to be sure! Rosemary gave you a great site to get started, and it has some good info on the naming practices.
I had a quick look for Maria's baptism in the baptism books for Faja Grande around the date that you gave for her birthday, but I didn't find her. You should double check, because I could easily have missed her. Or, possibly the date you have for her birthday is off a year or two-- it happens. last page of 1889: http://www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FLR-LF-FAJAGRANDE-B-1861-1889/FLR-LF-FAJAGRANDE-B-1861-1889_item1/P425.html first page of 1890:http://www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FLR-LF-FAJAGRANDE-B-1890-1910/FLR-LF-FAJAGRANDE-B-1890-1910_item1/P1.html However, in the 1902 baptisms, I found a Francisco born to a Francisco Rodrigues Coelho and Maria Emilia Fernandes. Here's the page with the record: http://www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FLR-LF-FAJAGRANDE-B-1890-1910/FLR-LF-FAJAGRANDE-B-1890-1910_item1/P205.html If your Frank's birthday matches this baby's record, then these are likely your great grandparents. best of luck with your research!
