Thought I’d share this article from World Nomads newsletter for those planning to visit the Azores. The islands are stunningly beautiful and it is worth getting out and about to really appreciate it. Hiring a car is great for flexibility but the driver does miss out on some of the views, so having a tour guide may be a good option.
Last year on my ancestral journey, I visited 5 islands, including Flores and Corvo, birthplace of my Fraga family. All the islands are so different and yet have the common features of an archipelago formed from volcanic activity. Corvo is a short boat trip from Flores and has the most amazing Caldera which really is breathtaking and worth the visit for anyone going to the outer islands. Terceira, Faial and Sao Miguel are also wonderful and so glad we visited them. I recently received my results from FTDNA and was a bit disappointed to be “100% English” but know in my heart that is just a label and I am really 1/16th Azorean and proud of it. Thanks for all the good information shared.
