Hi Annie, You will find that genealogists don't translate once they get inside the borders. Some may write Açores and some write Azores. Beyond that though, it is left in Portuguese - the island, the freguesia, and the church. It would be very strange for someone researching America to say they were looking for ancestors in Red Stick. No one in America knows where Red Stick is. But everyone knows where Baton Rouge is.
Since we don't know if you are in your 80s searching your grandparents (who might be born in the late 1800s) or in your 20s searching (making your grandparents born in the 1930s or 1940s), I can't point you exactly where you need to go. And there is more than one church named Nossa Senhora da Luz on Sao Miguel island. I hope you know which one. Hopefully your grandparents are in an older time period (before 1905 or so) and you can use the Centro de Conhecimento dos Açores (CCA). Go through Tombo.pt to navigate. It will link you back to the CCA. Currently the CCA site is down. Hopefully they will get it back up on Monday.
