Kathleen H, I have lots of Faria family on Faial. I have 3 different Rosa
ladies born in the 1800’s. You can write me directly. Hope we can connect.

Thank you, Cheri!  It's extremely kind of you.

I remember Rose well, and her daughter is still alive - once the family gets to
the US, all is clear.  It's just going backward that's awkward.

Thanks again!

Hi Kathleen H,

Everything in the Azores is organized on the village (freguesia level). You
need to know which village/freguesia it was on Faial.

Faial has about 13 churches to search. You could go through 1901-1903 looking
for a Rosa born to a Faria. The records cut off in 1911, so there's no way to
find Lydia.

You could use American resources to trace Rosa/Rose and her siblings. Death
certificates, obituaries from the paper, tombstone, kids' baptisms, U.S.
Census, naturalization records (hers or spouse's). There's a whole list of
things to search in this how to on the Azores GenWeb here:
http://www.worldgenweb.org/azrwgw/research-aids-a---l/finding-your-portuguese/

Also, if you have an exact year for your Rose/Rosa coming to MA, you can search
the Passaportes leaving Horta as well.

Happy hunting!

Hi, I'm stuck and hoping for either information or inspiration!  My
great-grandmother Rose Faria was born in Faial and settled in MA, US.  I can't
find her birth record.  She had multiple siblings, and I can't find their birth
records, either. The family story is that their parents died young so it's
possible they took on a relative's name but (guess?) even though I have a
possible line on this, I can't find the records.  Best yet, one of the siblings
died in the Azores, and I can't find her death certificate!  Any insight?

Rose (b. 1902) or Lydia Faria (b. abt 1916) (possible relative's name is
Cardosa).

Thank you for any advice!
