Hi Lillian, It's Sao Miguel island :) San Miguel is one of the Channel Islands off the coast of California. Wrong ocean!
Bettencourt is found with a higher frequency in the central island group. I don't believe it has a little pocket with a higher frequency somewhere on Sao Miguel island :( She'll be Maria (da) Souza until about 1911 and then they changed the spelling and she'll be Maria (da) Sousa.
