I've been getting the message that FTDNA is down for maintenance. The $99 was a new deal, perhaps? When I find out, I will post here.
The mtDNA is different than the Family Finder test. The mtDNA traces your mother's mother's mother's line - all women all the way back. Mitochondria mutate very, very slowly. Once the mtDNA database reaches critical mass, about half of the matches will be within a genealogical time frame (or so is the current thinking). So you can test, get your haplogroup, the cute little video, and then play wait and see. FamilyFinder covers ALL lines, back about 200 years from the birth of the testee. Most people now get lots of matches that they are able to work. Sometimes you can play the mtDNA and the Family Finder off of each other.
