(Sorry, Joseph, forgot to hit "reply all" the first time to send it to the list. prz)
Joseph, The verb is yiqtol, not qal. The subject is marked by the tau, indicating 2ms. The nu suffix is a pronominal object-3ms. It is not part of the verb conjugation per se. It marks the object of the verb. Hope this helps, Paul Zellmer -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Joseph Roberts Sent: Sunday, November 07, 2010 1:11 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [b-hebrew] Plural Pronomial Suffixes used in a Singular sense I was reading about translations surrounding Genesis 3:15. It was interesting to note that though many translate a portion of the verse as "it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." the verb "tesuphenu" has the first person plural ending yet it is translated as third person singular. Is this a theological leaning or sometimes can a plural ending be used in a singular sense?
