[Steve Miller] Kenneth, from the use of et in the Bible, I think that "et" can mean "with" (or "for" or "to" depending on the verb) only in certain situations: 1) connecting 2 nouns 2) with an intransitive or reflexive verb 3) when there is another direct object. 4) with communication verbs et can precede the thing communicated (i.e. devarim) as the direct obj marker, or it can precede the receiver of the communication as a preposition "with" or "to". This may be true of other verbs where direct object and the indirect object cannot be confused. The verb "pierced" never takes the preposition meaning of et. Also "pierced" always takes a direct object. "Et" is the dir obj marker here as in, "Do not make what the Lord has given us into this". "Do with" is the meaning of the verb asa here.
