Pere: Look at a standard paradigm chart for Hebrew conjugations: whenever a niphal loses its nun prefix because of the addition of another prefix, the first consonant of the root has a dagesh.
The infinitive adds another prefix, therefore the niphal loses its prefixed nun. Karl W. Randolph.
