It is a member of the root family SB, SP, ZB, ZP and we have from it: עשב ESEB, 'grass'; אזוב EZOB (practically ESOB), 'moss, hyssop' (1Ki 5:13); סעיף SAIP, 'branch', (Is. 27;10) and סוף SUP, 'rushes'', (Is. 19:6).
From Aramaic we have the useful סיב SIYB, 'fiber' and זיף ZIYP, 'bristle'.
