It's a common enough construction, Eric. You will probably find it discussed in 
most grammars when the infinitive is introduced.

Is there anybody here that might have the resources quickly to check the 
construction of a Qal infinitive absolute preceding a Qal imperfect of the same 
root as we find in Gen 2:17.  If so, perhaps someone might also submit a search 
for any root that has the same construction.
