I don’t know about to you, but to me this looks like an act of mercy.

If a slave-owner takes a female slave, and uses her sexually, he is to take
care of her as if she were a wife, not just use her and throw her away.
Because in using her, he is ruining her marriage prospects (making her a
reproach to a man) and making it more difficult for her to thrive in
society.

NXRPT נחרפת is a passive participle, something done to her, because she was
not free to refuse.

Now that I’ve stuck my neck out, does someone have a better answer?
