So that it can get an IP and be reachable via ssh for administration purposes (we could allocate them a static IP with image builder too, but I find it more convenient that way, for a small network). There is an experimental feature in ahcp (prefix delegation) which is designed to solve this issue, but we didn't make anything useful with it yet (our current focus is on diversity).
