Bay Area Biosystematists Meeting: Tuesday, 9 November, 2010
at Sonoma State University, Darwin Hall 101
Recent developments in Phenotypic Plasticity
Evolutionary biologists have become increasingly aware of the
importance of the interaction between environment and gene expression
in molding an organisms phenotype. Though the study of phenotypic
plasticity has a long history, conceptual barriers and design
limitations prevented the development of this field for many years.
Now that these barriers and limitations have been lifted, the study
of phenotypic plasticity has become an emerging frontier in
evolutionary biology.
Program organized by Nathan Rank of Sonoma State University.
Speakers:
Nathan Rank, Sonoma State University- Introductory remarks: Is the
enzyme locus PGI a plasticity gene?
Morgan Kelly, University of California-Davis - Climate change and
geographic variation in the plasticity of thermal tolerance.
Patrick McIntyre, University of California-Davis - Phenotypic and
transgenerational plasticity- perspectives from polyploid plants
Schedule and venue:
