The following is a request for help from George South from the rather cool iPM on Radio 4... If anyone can help he can be contacted on the details below....
----------- I'm looking for help from a google maps guru, for a project we're trying to get ready by tomorrow. I work on a Radio 4 programme, iPM, and we're asking listeners to send us their postcodes, with the aim of putting them on a google map and mashing them up. We've got a huge data set (15,000 and counting) which due to my incompetent javascript skills is rendering extremely slowly. The google maps api supports large numbers of markers through the Marker Manager, but I've been unable to get it working correctly and wonder if anyone can help? We're currently loading the data via json from a google spreadsheet atom feed located here: http://spreadsheets.google.com/feeds/list/o17679039629647399716.293045128234 9859181/od6/public/basic <http://spreadsheets.google.com/feeds/list/o17679039629647399716.29304512823 49859181/od6/public/basic> I'm working on the map at http://www.typocrat.com/maps/iPMmap2.html <http://www.typocrat.com/maps/iPMmap2.html> -- it's not got any of the marker manager code in it at the moment because it basically broke the map when I tried to add it. Could anybody help with implementing marker manager such that only 100-150 markers are displayed in the viewport at any one time? Any help from Backstagers would be hugely appreciated -- we don't have a proper tech budget for this but could pay a sum for any more hands-on help.
