Duncan doesn’t want to know how often the max is, but rather an average time between major stories that get onto the front page. Basically the site will be busier during the day, but not during the night, so if we check every 15mins/half hour in the day, what would be better in the evening. No rush Ben, but any kind of rough guess would be great! :) (Apologies if you already knew what was meant!)

Cheers

Steve

I'll find out what our thresholds are and report back.  Might not be till Monday, though!

Subject: [backstage] RSS at night.

Hi,

Another prototype I am working on (yes, another) involves using the rss feeds to work out which news items are the most important by how long they are near the top of the feed.  This obviously means checking the feeds fairly often, but I am not entirely sure how often it should be.  At the moment I am thinking about every half an hour during the day, but the night is another matter.  How often would the news be updated during the night (ie, is it worth updating every half an hour or would it be more useful to check every few hours)?

Thanks,
Duncan
